The Midnight Kitchen is Hiring!

I. ADMINISTRATIVE / OPERATIONS COORDINATOR

 16-18 hours/week—-$5100 

Responsibilities Include:

* Keep finances organized and transparent

* Manage daily operations

* Maintain communication with SSMU (Student Society of McGill University) executive

* Coordinate bulk food orders

* Make small purchases of new tools (with feedback from collective members and volunteers)

* Research into purchasing large equipment and apply for grants to facilitate these purchases

* Provide weekly progress updates to the Midnight Kitchen collective via email

* Attend collective meetings, reporting on finances, kitchen logistics, and daily operations

* Draft the job contracts for Fall 2011 staff, and submit them into SSMU

*Sit on the hiring committee for incoming staff and train staff in fall

*Assist special projects coordinator with purchasing and organization

* Work with the other Midnight Kitchen summer staff and the collective for support and accountability

 

Desired Skillsets:

* General knowledge of radical politics and their intersections with food politics* Organizational skills

* Ability to work autonomously* Strong communication skills* Knowledgeable of SSMU finances and administration (asset)* Experience in applying for grants (asset)* Bilingual (asset)

 

II. OUTREACH COORDINATOR

 16-18 hours/week—-$5100 

Responsibilities Include:

* Organize workshops/events related to the Midnight Kitchen’s Mandate

* Research local grocers who may be willing to donate fresh produce to MK and work to strengthen our relationship with our current grocery donors

* Check the email account regularly* Maintain and update the MK website / Facebook page

* Communicate with groups about Catering Requests and Kitchen Booking Requests

* Coordinate caterings (including the Anarchist Bookfair)

* Work to build relationships with other food security groups in Montreal

* Organize a food safety training for the collective in September

* Provide weekly progress updates to the Midnight Kitchen collective via email

* Attend collective meetings, reporting on new catering requests and outreach work

*Sit on the hiring committee and coordinate training for incoming staff in fall

*Assist special projects coordinator with developing a plan for room 302

* Work with the other Midnight Kitchen summer staff and the collective for support and accountability

 

Desired Skillsets:* Knowledge of (radical) food politics* Organized and able to work autonomously

* Creative and flexible* Outgoing* Good communication skills* Bilingual (asset)* Vegan cooking skills (asset)

 

III. SPECIAL PROJECTS COORDINATOR

 16-18 hours/week—-$5100

Responsibilities Include:

*Work with the SSMU executive to establish MK’s serving space (room 302) and create a space use policy

*Work to design the serving space, soliciting suggestions from the collective and volunteer base

*Work with the collective and administrative coordinator to purchase decorations and equipment for the    serving space

* Organize 302 launch party with outreach organizer in early September

* Work to update the MK library,purchase new books and implement a cataloguing system

*Communicate with Alternative Libraries database and attempt to incorporate Midnight Kitchen Library *Research the possibility of starting a bulk food coop in the serving space

*Work to organize Midnight Kitchen spaces, including the office and the kitchen

*Organize Midnight Kitchen files (physical and digital) and implement a system to archive old documents 

 

Desired Skillsets:*Strong organizational skills * Ability to work autonomously * Strong communication skills * Knowledge of cataloguing/archiving systems (asset)*Knowledge of Midnight Kitchen/SSMU (asset) * Bilingual (asset)

 

IV: Researcher

 8 hrs/week—$2400

Responsibilities Include:

*Research collective structure at Midnight Kitchen and the feasibility of renewable paid positions

*Communicate with past collective members and other similar organizations to gain information

*Research different methods/processes of consensus decision-making and facilitation

*Develop proposals for the collective in the fall

*Develop a facilitation and consensus training for the collective in fall

*Compile documents for collective use and consultation

*Maintain communication with staff and attend collective meetings

*Sit on the hiring committee for fall positions

 

Desired Skillsets:*Ability to work autonomously * Good communication skills * experience with consensus decision making and facilitation(asset) * knowledge of/experience with student and/or non-profit groups * Bilingual (asset)
